"Mangroves have three main functions, namely ecological functions, disaster mitigation, and socio-economic functions for the community," he said, Tuesday (1/27).

He added that this area also has the potential to be developed as an environmental education-based mangrove tourism destination. Besides preserving nature, this could also provide added economic value for the community.

"Hopefully hundreds of mangrove seedlings that have been planted can grow well so that the benefits can be felt in the long term, and are able to strengthen the island's resilience to the impacts of climate change and potential natural disasters," he hoped.

Meanwhile, one of the Unsoed students, Ahmad (22), said he was proud to be directly involved in environmental conservation activities in the Seribu Islands.

"This activity gave us real experience about the importance of protecting coastal areas," he admitted.
